Here’s our list of 3 best watches of 2011.
1. Christopher Ward C11 Altus Chronograph
Borrowing its look from the altimeters found in vintage planes, the C11 also takes cues from some more modern bits of tech. The glass in the C11 is more normally found in museums and reduces reflection -handy when you're flying at 5,000m in bright sunlight.

2. Seiko Ananta Chronograph
To celebrate 130 years of watch-making, Seiko invited the world's greatest lacquer artist - Isshu Tamura, but you knew that already - to hand paint each of the 700 Anantas. As a result they are very black indeed, and thus easier to read underwater. Anti-magnets, shock-absorbing clamps and a new, Seiko-designed alloy are also involved.

3. Franck Muller Casablanca Chronograph
New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has been welcomed to England by means of a watch with his name etched on the back. At 33, Villas-Boas was the youngest coach ever to scoop a major European football title - his team Porto won the UEFA Europa League in 2010 - and there are only 33 available. A platinum rotor ensures Lampard-like accuracy.
